On December 2, 2006,  the 1st NLI Awards & Recognition Dinner was held in Abuja. The event was a culmination of all of NLI’s activities in its first year and one of the major highlights included a showcase of the Individual and Class projects of the NLI January 2006 Fellows. NLI fellows undertake individual and class projects, which are according to set guidelines and are monitored to ensure that they have a meaningful impact on the Nigerian Society.

There was also a special presentation of the 2006 NLI Values-Based Leadership award to Mr. Akintola Williams for his long track record of high values and his exemplary contribution to the development of Nigeria.

The President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR who was represented by the NLI Founding Patron and the Nigerian High Comminnsioner to the UK, Dr. Christopher Kolade, gave the Keynote Address at the event and reminded all in attendance that it was important to remember and celebrate the best in Nigeria’s glorious past, and to acknowledge the debt that we all owe to the generations that laboured to secure for us a country and a society that we proudly call our own.
