Mr. Segun Aganga (L) & Dr. Christopher Kolade (R)

Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI) was established in January 2006 by Mr. Segun Aganga, an M.D at Goldman Sachs U.K and our founding Patron is Dr. Christopher Kolade, fmr Nigerian High Commissioner to the U.K. The mission of NLI is to mobilize the energy, talent and resources of credible, accomplished individuals and corporations in Nigeria, United States, Europe and the world and get them committed to tackling the challenges that confront Nigeria.

The Objectives of NLI

Mobilize the energy, talent and resources of credible and accomplished Nigerian leaders drawn from Nigeria, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the rest of Africa to tackle the challenges that confront Nigeria.

  • Encourage them to move from success to significance by taking more responsibility for the future of Nigeria.
  • Encourage them to move from thought to action by undertaking a leadership project that demonstrates their values and to participate actively in class projects, projects aimed at transforming the society.
  • Through a fellowship Program, develop a cadre of values-based, community-spirited leaders

NLI achieves its mission by organizing Seminars and engaging in impactful projects.

The seminars are modeled after those held at the Aspen Institute’s myriad of leadership offerings from the Henry Crown Program to the African Leadership Initiative. As such, they are text based and moderated by skilled professionals whose role is not to teach but to prompt informed dialogue among participants. The classes include:

Our Leadership seminars is the core of our foundation. Participants from these seminars are required to participate in NLI projects and/or execute a project of their choice.

The seminars include:

Future Leaders (“Associates”)

A Future Leaders Class is held for emerging public and private leaders within the 25-35 years age group based

Leadership and Corporate Governance Seminars

NLI engages public and corporate leaders in seminars.  In the past, NLI has organized seminars for the President, Government Ministers and Advisers in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria.

NLI is also pleased to host the Christopher Kolade Symposium, (CK Symposium) a symposium in honor of a great leader. The symposium will be held each year in Nigeria with a cast of eminent, highly-credible, and public-spirited Nigerians. The themes of the symposiums will vary yearly but will be focused on Public Service. The Theme of the first symposium was on Servant Leadership while the most recent Symposium held in May 2009 was on Reflections of Public Service Professionals.

In addition to our Seminars, Projects and the C.K Symposium, we have several impactful initiatives that we strongly believe will bring impact to the Health, Economic, Education and National Orientation of Nigeria.
